Somatic Coaching
Somatic Principles are based on the theory that the mind, body and spirit are connected and that influencing a change in one will influence the others. Our focus is often the mind or cognitive learning, yet sensory learning or using the body for feedback creates quick shifts.Self awareness” “sense of being” “Emotional Intelligence” “consciousness” “transformation” “integrated” are all coaching buzzwords that Yogis, Buddhists, Sufis and Taoists were masters at developing. Their secret was to work with both mind AND body.
Yasmin ‘s interest in Somatics began whilst working to correct posture and alignment through movement using Pilates, Yoga, feldenkrais and other movement practices. She noticed how mind states influenced posture and began researching the influence of the mind/body connection.
This led to Body Sensing. A Somatic Coaching tool Yasmin has developed using the mind/body connection or sensory intelligence.
What is sensory intelligence and how do we know the mind and body are connected?
The very first time you put your hand on a hot stove you know it’s hot!!! That’s sensory feedback!!
Developing self awareness requires feedback. Coaching often uses a cognitive or thinking approach for self reflection and feedback.....so we think about who we are.
Sensory intelligence provides immediate feedback through the body and allows us to feel who we are.
