Emotional Intelligence for self mastery
IQ refers to our Intellectual or intelligent quotient, our ability to use logic to problem solve. Emotional Intelligence refers to our ability to feel and manage the effects our emotions have on us and others. This type of learning requires a sensory approach versus an intellectual one which means reading or talking about it is not enough to put it into practice.
Programme Description
Executives and Leaders with a high level of EI know how to eliminate the stress and frustration of working with others by having the ability and flexibility to understand and manage themselves and lead others, resulting in happier, motivated and high performing teams. This programme is designed for groups and individuals who want to overcome their emotional “blind” spots and barriers to communication.
Approach
Although not the first to talk about it, Daniel Goleman was one of the most significant in raising our awareness of Emotional Intelligence and its importance. Together with Richard Boyatzis and in collaboration with Hay-McBrer, Goleman introduced the EI model and later the ESCI model (Emotional and Social Competency Inventory), a multi-rater or 360 degree assessment tool that measures behavioural competencies. These include:
- Self-awareness – the ability to read one's emotions and recognize their impact while using gut feelings to guide decisions.
- Self-management – involves controlling one's emotions and impulses and adapting to changing circumstances.
- Social awareness – the ability to sense, understand, and react to others' emotions while comprehending social networks.
- Relationship management – the ability to inspire, influence, and develop others while managing conflict.
Learning outcomes include:
- Better self-awareness and clearer understanding of strengths and areas for improvement.
- Adopting strategies to manage conflict and communicate with clarity and confidence.
- Increased sensitivity towards others and responding appropriately to work and social situations.
- Applying Emotionally Intelligent Listening Skills to Enhance Empathy and Awareness of Others.
- Create an action plan for continued EI self-development.
